To Kill a mockingbird

I wonder how many people of our age have read this book. This Pulitzer prize winner by Harper Lee is one of the best book i have ever read.

The Story is about a father raising his two children in a prejudiced society. The story is told from point of view of a child (Scout Finch).

The story is about Aticus Finch a father and a lawyer. He is defending a black who is wrongly accused of **** of a white woman. how he fights the case and at the same time brings up his children in the white dominated society is a worth read. The way harper lee has portrayed the charachter of Aticus Finch, makes him your role model.

A film was made on this novel by Robert Mulligan. Its a 1960 Academy Award winner featuring one of the best actor of that time Gegory Peck.

It doesn't matter if you have not seen the film but you have missed a charachter if you don't read the book.

A time to kill is by Wilbur Smith,
It is about  Col. Sean Courtney who manages a wild life area and earns living out of it
Later he is dragged into circumstance where he is confornted wid his old rival of war days......

and story is very fast and catching

it shows wilbur smiths senyiments abt africa and its politics.....

 some books are not worth missing.

i'd say, see / read ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST/as well.

some other books that appeal to me apart from the ones above mentioned:

 can catch the movie version too, clint eastwood and meryl streep. wonderfull.

 -- the shepherd by forsyth
 -- tokyo cancelled ?
 -- vernon god little by DBC pierre
 -- god of small things,  by roy
 -- mario puzo, the godfather .. dont miss the movie!
 -- catch 22, of course.
 -- sherlock holmes, twenty thousand leagues under the sea, finding neverland ..?
 -- hemingway, dh lawrence, rand, hanif qureishi.. 
 -- has anyone read, the sound and the fury, william faulkner?

another book along similar themes, is faulkner's light in august.
A bit of serious reading.
It peaks if you dare to peek between the lines.
People tell me they find reading faulkner difficult.. I wonder how.
Its kind of like rk narayan, non-indians find the details dull.
Read old man and the sea (hemingway), if you want to read a timeless story.
I liked forsyth's the man from st. petersburg, if you prefer a movie like storyline.
